Born in Risca, South Wales Laura Parfitt began her studies at Welsh College of Music and Drama and then at the Royal Academy of Music, completing her studies at Dennis O’Neill’s Cardiff International Academy of Voice.
She has won numerous prizes including an award from the BBC, the Dame Eva Turner Prize for dramatic soprano, the Harriet Cohen Major Prize and the Sir Geraint Evans Scholarship. She was also a finalist for both the Young Welsh Singer Competition and the W. Towyn Roberts Scholarship at the National Eisteddfod.
Laura Parfitt’s engagements have included the title role in Anna Bolena and Donna Elvira Don Giovanni for English Touring Opera, Adina L’elisir d’amore and Rose Maybud Ruddigore for Opera Della Luna and Iford Festival Opera, Gretchen The Poacher at the Buxton Festival, Rosina Il barbiere di Siviglia for Welsh National Opera, Minnie, La Fanciulla Del West, Abigaille, Nabucco, Tosca and Violetta for Diva Opera, Berta (on as cover) for Scottish Opera, and Marilyn Monroe, Happy Birthday Mr President for Volkstheater Rostock and Elisabetta, Don Carlos in Spain.
She sings regularly as a concert soloist and has performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, St David’s Hall, Symphony Hall, Birmingham, and the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
She has shared the concert platform and opera stage with many acclaimed singers including Kiri Te Kanawa, Dennis O’Neill, Rebecca Evans, Susan Bullock, Colin Lee and more and has performed in master classes for some of the world’s biggest opera stars including Sherril Milnes, Illiana Contrubas, Carol Vaness, Bernd Weikl and Jane Eaglen to name but a few.
Her broadcasts include a live brosadcast of Anna Bolena Mad Scene on In Tune for BBC Radio 3, a video for The Guardian Newspaper and several television appearances including a gala concert with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and tenor Dennis O‘ Neill.
Laura has many future engagements planned including numerous Gala concerts and recitals. Last year she sang her first La Fanciulla Del West and her first Tosca both to extremely high acclaim. Last season she created the role of ‘Marilyn Monroe’ in the World Premiere of the opera ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’ in Germany and she recently sang her first Violetta in La Traviata throughout France and the Uk and recently made her Spanish debut as Elisabetta in Don Carlos. Laura has a busy performance schedule ahead including Tosca in London, work with WNO, Aldeburgh Recitals with The Wagner Society, Opera North and Margeretha/Helen of Troy in Boito’s Mefistofele along with many exciting concerts and varied engagements.
