Alberto Sousa was born in Madeira, Portugal.
He graduated in Vocal Studies at the University of Aveiro with António Salgado and has recently finished the Guildhall Opera Course, studying with Laura Sarti.
As an alumnus of the Solti Te Kanawa Accademia di Bel Canto (2012) he recorded a CD of Italian songs produced by Richard Bonynge, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Sir Georg Solti.
Critics describe him as a “bright but unforced tenor” (Musical Pointers), "with a bullet-proof technique" (BergamoNews), “whose clear, clean tenor was the best voice of the evening” (Opera Magazine), and as “someone with bel canto potential” (Opera Britannia) and an “excellent enunciation” (Classical Source).
2014 has been an excitingly international year for Alberto, so far with a tour of Bel Canto recitals in Japan and a European tour of Orlando Paladino by Haydn with Purpur Opera.
Later in the year Alberto will sing the first modern performance of Jan Wansky's Litaniae in Poland and have his debut at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, with a performance of Mozart's Requiem.
Back in the UK, where he currently lives, Alberto will be performing Gaston and cover Alfredo in Verdi's La Traviata with Grange Park Opera and Ramiro in Rossini's Cenerentola at the Clapham Opera Festival.
